Freesco As A Syslog Server

Remember this is a 1.44Mb floppy disk router, space is limited.

Hi

Some time ago I moved to ADSL broadband using an ADSL modem/router with a good incoming firewall that has served to replace my dialup FREESCO of some years. I would have liked to keep it going for DHCP use but it wasn't worth the power use. I now have a need to log the Internet usage but the ADSL router can't log internally. It can however do remote logging to a syslog host. Is it possible to set FREESCO as a syslog host? This would be good for my use as I have a little analysis script to mask sites I have seen before so the new ones get highlighted. Any thoughts?

You need to start syslogd with -r -m0 options to make it listen for remote syslog clients.
But I'm not quite sure where syslogd is started
 :(

syslogd is started in the initial rc script and as stated above it is already configured to listen for a remote host. So all that should be required is to configure the client to send the logs to FREESCO.
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.

Noticed this topis as I was posting something related to a UPS. Here is an example straight from my main Freesco box, message generated by a UPS:

192.168.231.21 192.168.231.21 APC: Test Syslog.

(Ok, not a 'real' message, just one generated when I told the UPS to test the syslog report generation. It works in other words ;) )
