exim 4.20 for v03x

Announcements of packages that are now released.

Postby PHBC50 » Tue Mar 09, 2004 11:37 pm

Hello to all,
I've compiled and packaged exim 4.20 for freesco 03x for all you Freesco user. It is a beta package.
I've compiled using Zipslack, and set it up on freesco. This is a basic package, no extra support included, particularly no SSL support.
I basically repacked the same config as it existed for Freesco v0.2.7 (by Dagoob), and as a temporary solutions already for freesco v03x (by Maine-iac), from which it is mainly inspired.

Code: Select all
pkg -i http://afpercu.hopto.org/packages/03x/exim_4.20_phbc50

The config file is in /usr/local/exim/configure. Make sure you setup right :
Code: Select all
primary_hostname = <usually router.inet or else put your dyndns/no-ip name here>

domainlist local_domains = <your local domains, it can be also like 192.168.0.0/16, separated by :>

hostlist ? relay_from_hosts = 127.0.0.1 : < here you can put if this reflect your network 192.168.0.0/16 for instance>

Give me your feedback !
Regards,
phbc50

Hello,
No you have to do a complete deintall before you run exim 4. It will not upgrade. There are a few new things in this version. Exim 4 is easy to configure. And for the change it is up to you really, this package is still in developement. So if you like stability you can stay with Maine-Iac package.
If you really don't like playing with things making it your own way it is best maybe. But if you want the newest version then go for it, you can rely on my help for support if that at all means anything

Now......
I deinstalled Maine-Iac's package (had to do it by hand, but who care's).
I installed your's and after a little tinkering with the config file it worked.

Mailed internaly, internal to external and vice versa, every thing worked.
Tried <a href='http://www.abuse.net/relay.html' target='_blank'>Mail Abuse</a> for mail relaying, every test came out ok !!
I just added an option from the old config file just in case
remote_smtp:
  driver = smtp
  fallback_hosts = my.provider.smtp.adres

Good work :lol:

B.t.w. I like experimenting with my freesco box, i just wanted to know...

I did not tried your package.
I hope it works... :biggrin3:

I did made a package of Exim4.34 for Freesco 0.3.x, available on
<a href='http://moreira.dnsalias.net/home/freesco/pkg/' target='_blank'>http://moreira.dnsalias.net/home/freesco/pkg/</a>

I hope this turns the beta phase, into the 3rd party release.

Best regards,
Moreira

Hi,

I have been having some problems with exim, all of a sudden. I had exim 4.2 installed, and tried out version 4.34.

For some wierd reason, exim 4.34 did not set up on my version 033 freesco and I would like to reinstall exim 4.2, but the link is broken!!

Does anyone have a newer link, or perhaps a copy? Unfortunately I did not save a version.

Kind Regards, Robert

Thanks,
My isp blocks port 25, and it looks like they have changed something and I cannot send email. They changed at some stage over the week end and I now keep getting error 421. Wierd!

Thanks again for setting up the link!

Kind Regards, Robert

i have a newbie question.

from what i have read i understand that exim is an smtp server? am i correct? and teapop is a pop3 server right?

my situation is i only need an smtp server that can relay mail from any domain. can exim do that for me?

Why on earth would you want to do that ?
That would setup your freesco to be an open mail relay, and you don't want that.
