cdrtools 2.00.3

Announcements of packages that are now released.

This is a beta release of cdrtools_2.00.3_tom for Freesco. If you have an atapi/ide cdburner in your Freesco box then this package is for you. I don't think it'll work with a scsi burner but since I don't have one I can't say for sure.

There's 2 things that you have to do manually after you install the package:

1. This package requires a special kernel. Gnork was nice enough to compile this kernel for me. It includes support for ide-scsi emulation and will work with Apache. You can either use his kernel_utility package to install the new it or manually copy the one provided with this package to /mnt/bootdev/router. If you manually copy the kernel, you should make a backup of the old one first!

Code: Select all
mv /mnt/bootdev/router/kernel /mnt/bootdev/router/kernel.old
cp /pkg/usr/local/cdrtools/kernel /mnt/bootdev/router
sync
sync

2. You have to edit your router.bat file (or autoexec.bat) and add hdc=ide-scsi to the boot line. (hdc assumes that your burner is master on the 2nd ide channel, yours might be different)

Code: Select all
c:\router\loadlin c:\router\kernel initrd=c:\router\ramdisk no-hlt BOOTDEV=hda3 root=/dev/ram0 vga=0 panic=15

needs to be changed to:

Code: Select all
c:\router\loadlin c:\router\kernel initrd=c:\router\ramdisk no-hlt BOOTDEV=hda3 root=/dev/ram0 vga=0 panic=15 hdc=ide-scsi

This assumes that your cd burner is hdc (master on the 2nd ide channel). Change hdc to whatever you your burner is.

from now on, you'll have to mount your burner as scd0

Code: Select all
mkdir /mnt/cdrom
mount /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom

Look in /pkg/usr/local/cdrtools/man for info on how to use mkisofs and cdrtools

Here's how you might make a backup of your Freesco system:

Code: Select all
mkisofs -l -J -v -V "backup" /mnt/bootdev | cdrecord dev=0,0,0 -

I found that my cd burner was 0,0,0 by running "cdrecord -scanbus"

Here's how you would check to see how much space a backup would take and exit (but don't really make the image or burn it)

Code: Select all
mkisofs -l -J -v -V "backup" -print-size /mnt/bootdev/router/www /mnt/bootdev/router/pkg

If you have any questions or feedback or if you find bugs, please post in the 3rd package support section. Feedback is really appreciated.

Gnork, thanks again for the kernel

happy burning :D

Tom,

there is no subfolder called packages on your ftp,
just f033, freesco and linwin
but even in freesco your package is not there...

Please fix this, so we can get your package...
I'm dying to try it out.

Sorry, I had some trouble and had to use a temporary Freesco box while I get the files transfered from the old hard drive. I'll get all my files back up as soon as possible. As far as I know, nobody has built a kernel for 033 that has IDE-SCSI emulation support yet (I already requested one but nobody's got to it yet).

I'll make a post here when everything's back online

Just one question though...
I allready have a cd-rom supporting kernel installed
kernel-033.pptp-ipsec-vipc-cd
I needed this kernel to setup pptp sessions to my work and to use Apache (vipc)
But since it also supports cd-rom's do I need the kernel from gnork ?

Thasaidon,

The kernel that Gnork built is the only one that I know of that has IDE-SCSI emulation built in which is needed for cd burning but the problem is that I don't know if it has pptp support. Hopefully, I'll have my files/packages back online soon.

OK, the links should work now. Let me know if you have any trouble with this package because I had to salvage these files from mangled file names in DIR000?? folders from a corrupt hard drive (I hate umsdos!!!)

Well, the link seems to work now ;)

but there seems to be an error in the .gz file (when trying to open with MC)
gzip: stdin: invalid compressed data--crc error

and the install file seems to be "mangled" aswell.
This is part of what I get when I enter Y at the question if I want to see the install script...

So I guess there is defenately something wrong with the files here...
Allthough, when I edit the install file with MC,
then everything looks ok...

quit()  { rm -r $3
          killall pkg
          sync
          sync
          exit 1
}

So I'll first try and see if I can install it on my test Freesco,
if the install goes well,
then all I need is a kernel-033.pptp-ipsec-vipc-IDE-SCSI emulation

Well, it looks like I need to ditch all the files that I thought I salvaged. Oh well, I have most of the stuff backed up (in various locations) but it'll take a while to get everything back in order. I've replaced cdrtools_2.00.3_tom with the original package from my development image so that's 1 down I guess. Sorry for all the trouble but you should be able to install it now.

EDIT

heh, maybe I should use my own package to backup my ftp more often :P

Sorry for the late response :blush1:
Unfortunately the 0.3.2 IDE-SCSI kernel does not have pptp support....
- In need of a <a href='http://forums.freesco.org/support/index.php?showtopic=13490' target='_blank'>patched FREESCO kernel</a> ? - <br><b>= Anything that can happen, will happen =</b>
