PACKAGE NAME: freefax_1.1_xor

Ok, here it is :) Now anybody can fax any document by a faxmodem connected to a Freesco server. Just simply install this package, configure freefax.conf, than add on client hosts a remote printer device linked with a server samba share Fax - any PostScript printer device should be fine, like Apple LaserWriter PS. Then if you want to fax something - just print it on this 'fax printer' :) You should receive a message asking for a fax number - so send a destination fax number in reply and voila :) If anything goes wrong (line busy, etc) - freefax will try to fax it again a couple of times. If try number excedes maximum try number configured in freefax.conf or any fatal error occurs - it will notify a proper user of this. All communication is done by msn messagess - the ones sent by 'net send' command under Windows platform or smbclient -M under linux.
There is a spooler for fax jobs and a simple spooler for notification messages. The scripts are unfortunatly quiet slow - basic freesco lacks many useful commands (like cut) or has very poor implementations of other ones (like date) - so I had to use maaaany SED commands, and it's not too fast :D But they work, and that's the thing that matters :)
Package is for Freesco 3.x.

Notes :
1. Cron utility MUST be running
2. Samba MUST be installed and working
3. WinPOPUP on win 9x/Me or WindowsMessenger on winXP MUST be running on client hosts
4. On WinXP after disconnecting a network cable computer must be restarted - strange bug currently under investigation...
5. On client hosts there should be installed some software for managing incomming msn messagess - QuickMessenger is a very good solution (but must be configured propertly - like adding a ROOT user linked with server IP).
In some time I should include to this package a simple, but very useful :) program that will be best for this purpose.

This is a beta version - so I'd like to ask everyone that has a network and a faxmodem to test this package !

WARNING : this utility will (in most cases) not work if a faxmodem is also used by a server for other purposes.

Awaiting feedback :)

BIG thanks goes to TOM for help in the beginning !

I was contacted by JustDave that there is a problem on his win98 with constant flooding with messagess and server does not respond to 'fax number' message. On winxp I have no such problems, so it must be something with win9x. Will look into this issue as soon as I get some win9x machine :)

nexxt,

This link isn't meant to be a URL that you type into your web browser. From the command line in Freesco, type:

Code: Select all
pkg -i http://www.republika.pl/xor/freefax_1.2_xor

OR

If you're using the "package" menu from Freesco setup to install this package, then enter:

Code: Select all
http://www.republika.pl/xor/

for the package URL

and

Code: Select all
freefax_1.2_xor

for the package name.

It's not meant to be a link to click on from your browser but if you enter:

Code: Select all
http://www.republika.pl/xor/freefax_1.2_xor

in your browser, you'll see the install script that this package uses.
