utils_1.1_dingetje for FREESCO 03x

Announcements of packages that are now released.

Postby dingetje » Thu Jan 13, 2005 7:51 am

After almost 2 years, I've finally packaged a new version of my utils package.

Changes:
  • Added the missing FREESCO 027 network diagnostics tools: netstat, tcpdump, icmpinfo and traceroute.
  • added the missing libdb.so.1 for 'pavuk'
  • a patched version of the smtpclnt binary which fixed a communication problem with my ISP's SMTP server.
  • added mii-diag, a NIC information/configuration tool
  • added di, b64, tput, id, cpio, fsplit, uuencode and uudecode
  • added libs libm.so.5, libncurses.so.3.4 and libintl.so.1
  • updated utils.txt 'man' page to reflect the changes

Code: Select all
pkg -i http://dingetje.homeip.net/packages/0.3.x/utils_1.1_dingetje

You can install on top of your existing utils package, but that may leave utils_1.0_dingetje in the installed packages list. So uninstall that package first if you don't like the old package still being listed.

Just as a sidenote to this package in combination with the uptime command not working anymore...

as quoted from Dingetje...
Let me guess....you've installed my utils_1.1_dingetje package?

I'm afraid the expr binary in that package is the cause for this, so I suggest you rename that one to something else:

Code: Select all
cd /pkg/bin
mv expr expr.bad
pkg -rescan

This will fix the problem.

But I take it Dingetje has allready updated his great package ?!

Indeed, dingetje _is_ the man and this is a _great_ package for those of us used to having more commands available. I want to ask a question and then give a tip for this package.

The package includes chroot but there is a chroot in /bin on my FREESCO 0.3.3 box. I don't even use the command but I was just wondering what the reasons are.

Code: Select all
[root@Freesco] ls -l /bin/chroot
-rwxr-xr-x  35 root          root            55841 Sep  9  2000 /bin/chroot
[root@Freesco] ls -l /pkg/bin/chroot
-rwxr-xr-x   1 root          root             1825 May 15  2000 /pkg/bin/chroot
[root@Freesco]

Now for the tip and it may be an obvious one but just in case... :)

To launch vi as a viewer program create a symlink named view that points to vi.

Code: Select all
cd /pkg/bin
ln -s vi view

Now, if you type 'view filename' it'll launch vi as a read only viewer. You can also create a symlink named 'ex' if you know that you want to launch vi as ex.

nslookup not work at default routing with PPPoE:

*** Can't find server name for address 127.0.0.1: Non-existent host/domain
*** Default servers are not available

Why?
