irssi 0.8.9 for FREESCO 0.3.x

Announcements of packages that are now released.

Postby dingetje » Sat Jan 22, 2005 6:40 pm

<a href='http://irssi.org/' target='_blank'>irssi</a> is a text only IRC client with perl script support.
This package for FREESCO 0.3.x is based on the latest 0.8.9 release.

Code: Select all
pkg -i http://dingetje.homeip.net/beta/0.3.x/irssi_0.8.9_dingetje

I have not tested the package very much, just that it installs and I was able to connect to an IRC server. None of the perl stuff is tested. I hope some BETA testers that are more into IRC then I am are willing to test this and report back here.

For obvious reasons, the perl_5.6.1_dingetje package is also required to make it work.

The client is compiled with the next modules:
Code: Select all
00:44 Module               Type    Submodules
00:44 core                 static  core irc fe fe-irc fe-text
00:44 dcc                  static  irc fe-irc
00:44 flood                static  irc
00:44 notifylist           static  irc fe-irc
00:44 perl                 static  core fe

Documentation can be found on the homepage of irssi, and there are also some docs in /usr/share/doc/irssi after a succesfull installation. Start the client with irssi. Typing /help in the client gives a list of commands.
The 'master' config file is /etc/irssi.conf and for every user a config file is created in a directory called .irssi in the user's login directory. For the root user the login directory for older FREESCO 0.3.x versions is in RAM disk, so that file will get lost @ reboot!
A workaround is to create a symlink, or change the home directory of the root user.

Enjoy!

Just to pad you on the back... :D
It not only installs just fine,
but it also runs ok.

Allthough irssi is a bit different from what I'm used to,
I'm still fooling around with the setups

Thanx!

--- edit ---
Well, overall...
running the package seems to work without a hitch too :D
