Openldap 2.4.7

Announcements of packages that are now released.

As requested here (many times I might add...) I've finally taken the time to compile and package <a href='' target='_blank'>OpenLDAP</a> for FREESCO 03x.

The package is still to be considered BETA, because I want to get some user input from various machines first before releasing it.

Code: Select all
pkg -i

The package will populate an example data base (using ldapadd) during postinstall and then use ldapsearch to show an entry from the just populated data base.

The sample used I've found at <a href='' target='_blank'></a>

This sample database is protected via a clear text password in the slapd.conf file (not recommended, but easier for the demo and test).

A good LDAP tutorial is:
<a href='' target='_blank'></a>

This OpenLDAP package is compiled with support for Cyrus SASL and OpenSSL
Use Google for details howto setup OpenLDAP and how to populate the database and secure it via SSL and SASL password encryption.

For OpenLDAP Admin Guide and FAQ, see <a href='' target='_blank'></a>
Default OpenLDAP is blocked from the internet, see firewall rule in /pkg/rc/rc_openldap

Edit server config via: rc_openldap setup
Server startup with: rc_openldap start
Server shutdown with: rc_openldap stop

Several good OpenLDAP tutorials can be found online, just Google it!

When compared to my 027 OpenLDAP package of the good 'ol days, here are a few of the changes:

- man pages are not included, if you need them Google for them, they're online
- the slurpd deamon is not included (Standalone LDAP Update Replication Daemon) which can be used to replicate one LDAP directory to another
- the stooges example data base is replaced with a life populate in the postinstall with another example LDIF file
- by the looks of it, the 027 package had support for a bit more password encryption schemes

As of testing, just a little bit using the example LDIF file above and LDAP Browser, a free LDAP client for win32 platform.

BTW: forget about installing <a href='' target='_blank'>phpLDAPAdmin</a> on your FREESCO, the PHP module in my Apache package does not support LDAP (yet ;))
