NTP 4.1.1

Postby Lightning » Sat Mar 13, 2010 10:59 am

NTP (National Time Protocol). This package contains the ntpd daemon to run a full time server. This package does not replace the built in FREESCO time server that requires a special client and can run in conjunction with it. By default during installation the system will pick at random six stratum 2 or stratum 3 public Internet time servers to try and synchronize with. You MUST have the timezone file installed on your system before you try and install this package. If you don't have it installed you can download the modules-xxx.zip and install it. You then MUST reboot your system after installing the timezone file to install this package.

To install go into the setup and update your package list and install ntp-4.1.1-lightning.pkg

Warning do NOT try and find or use stratum 1 time servers to synchronize your system with unless you have 1000 or more clients connecting to your server for synchronization or you are making high precision astrological calculations. It is considered "Bad Form" and how much more accurate do you need past a 2000 of a second or so because stratum 2 servers are nearly as accurate.
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.
