ban local question v0.38

Postby lotus123r5 » Sat Oct 24, 2015 12:01 pm

Best support,

I want to ban a local mac adress for the network on freesco v0.38.

i read the following when i want to ban a local adress via Freesco Control panel:
# You can exchange a MAC address for an IP address in any local rule, but NOT for any external rule.
# The format is:
# al,00:11:22:33:44:AA

so i put the following in the Ban/Allow section via the Freesco Control panel, about 6 months ago:
bl,54:35:30:1e:03:2d # hmarshome

but when i checked the logfile today, i see the following in the [Connected clients] list:
hmarshome.inet (192.168.1.100) at on eth1
when i check the Network log i search for "hmarshome", i see the following:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----- cat /etc/dhcpd.leases | sed s/#.*// -----
lease 192.168.1.100 {
starts 6 2015/10/24 08:08:26;
ends 0 2015/10/25 08:08:26;
hardware ethernet 54:35:30:1e:03:2d;
uid 01:54:35:30:1e:03:2d;
client-hostname "hmarshome";
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I do somehting wrong?... or is it normal that a blocked local mac adress get an ip-adress from the Freesco r.0.38 router?
Hope someone can help me out with this. Thx!!!

Yes it is normal that a banned machine gets a DHCP lease and an IP address. The way trhe system actually works is that it continuously monitors the network and checks the MAC address of each IP and if it matches the ban then it just bans the IP address associated with the MAC.
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.
