Hi again,
still struggling to get my printer work I tried to compile (for the very first time) the sources from foo2zjs driver package on my new Zipslack development system.

I dowloaded the latest sources from <a href='http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/' target='_blank'>foo2zjs</a>
and tried to compile them according to the documentation on the same web page.
Running the make command I got the following output on the screen.
Code: Select all
p8-server:/test/foo2zjs# make
#
# Dependencies ...
#
# ... OK !
#
cc - 02 -Wall -c  foo2zjs.c  - o  foozjs.o
In file included from foo2zjs.c :67:
zjs.h:9: inttypes.h: No such file or directory
make: ***[foo2zjs.o] Error 1
p8-server:/test/foo2zjs#

According to what I found in the web this seems to be an error not related to the foo2zjs sources but to the Zipslack or compiler environment.

Has anyone got an idea what is missing and how it can be fixed.

I would be happy for any hint or solution.

Thanks in advance

P.S.: I'm using the recommended Zipslack version from Thasaidon's website with the 2.0.37 kernel - and changed the kernel to 2.0.39 first, before I replaced it with a freesco 0.3.8 kernel

zjs.h:9: inttypes.h: No such file or directory

The thing to understand about compilers is that they usually show pretty much exactly what the problem is. In this case if you look on line # 9 of the file zjs.h you will see an "include" for inttypes.h which is not in the location that that file is looking for it. So what you need to do is look through your /usr/include/ directory and find where that file is really located and then change the source in the zjs.h to that location.

P.S. this type of discussion SHOULD be posted in the package compiling section of the forum.
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.

First of all thanks for the hint Ligtning.
I will give it another try tonight.

Second, of course you are right that the package is wrong here.
Eventually the forum admin could move the post to the "package compiling" section.

Thanks and regards

Just a question to the ones who use Zipslack.

Could it be possible that the "inttypes.h" header file is missing in the Zipslack image ?
I can't find it on the system and it seems to be necessary.

Does there exist an additional package that has to be installed to get those headerfiles and the standard C libraries ?

Interrogative greetings

Spook

P.S.: Is it all this what is needed <a href='http://packages.slackware.it/search.php?v=current&t=1&q=glibc' target='_blank'>glibc* in Slackware package dir</a>
or just the "glibc-2.7-i486-4 " - and are those versions the right ones for the Zipslack version to be used to compile for FREESCO ?

See <a href='http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inttypes.h' target='_blank'>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inttypes.h</a> this file was added as late as 1999 and zipslack 3.9 is from the early nineties?

It may be sufficient to comment out the header file and then see where the compiler complains about a missing definition. Then google for it.

The glibc package you're refering to is most likely not fitted for zipslack 3.9.

Welcome to the wonderful world of an aging linux distro! ;)
