Adding a driver to a floppy

Postby online99 » Tue Jul 26, 2011 2:53 am

Hi,
I'm a complete beginner with freesco. I'm trying to add a driver for a Realtek ethernet card to my v0.4.3 floppy. The driver came with file called SETUP and a file called 8139.vol. The SETUP file is:

echo "Install RTL 8139X/8100 Family Fast Ethernet Adapter Driver (MDI)"
echo 'Please input source path ? ( ex: a:/sco/5.x) \c'
read d_path

echo "Please wait to transfer files ................"
if [ ! -x /tmp ]
then
mkdir /tmp
fi
doscp $d_path/8139.vol /tmp/VOL.000.000
echo "Transfer End ............"
echo "Please use 'custom' to install the driver."
echo "And follow the following options::"
echo " Software/Install New/From 'your computer'/MediaImages"
echo "Then enter the directory::/tmp"

How do I install the driver on my floppy?

I appreciate your patience with my ignorance.

By default the driver for your network card should be built into FREESCO. So you should not need to do anything for a rtl8139 chip set based network card.

Secondly anything that come from a manufacturer will never install directly on FREESCO and in addition to that even if they would it is doubtful that it would be compiled for a 2.0.40 Linux kernel.

If your card is not detected then please let us know exactly what the name and numbers are on the main chip on the network card board are, along with a report.txt attached in a reply.
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.

I'm trying to setup freesco to use with a replaytv, and I've been advised that 0.3.2 is the version that doesn't require authentication, which I assume is a password from the replay which I don't have.

I've got 0.3.2 on my floppy now, so I'm going to move my questions to that section. I hope you will follow me there, Lightning.

Thanks!
