Upgrading FREESCO

Postby mark » Wed Jan 28, 2015 7:23 am

Hello support guy(s),

is there an "easy" way to upgrade FREESCO (from v0.4.2) to the latest version without loosing all the settings, own written scripts, ...?

Kind regards,

If you just setup the basic system on the floppy and then choose to "overwrite" your hard drive installation. The system will generate a backup copy of all of the default system files in the /boot/ directory. Which you can reference after it is up and running. With regards to custom scripting and such, everything that is not a system type of file will survive intact, including configurations for packages.

If you happen to have some customized system scripts and or files. I would STRONGLY recommend copying them to somewhere in the /boot/ directory and then just use them as a reference to make similar changes to the new system files. It is important NOT to use older system scripting on the new system.
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.
