NTPD and British Summer Time (BST)

Postby bob selby » Wed Apr 09, 2014 5:22 pm

The time client in 040 is correctly setting the time to GMT+1 (ie BST).

However, the NTPD package only seems to get GMT.

Can it be made to automatically handle BST so the time matches the firewall system time ??

TIA

The system time should be using BST time on all of the system files. There are a few exceptions to this such as the DHCP server logs and leases are always GMT. Also when the system is booting there is a period of time before the BST file is loaded that it will use system BIOS time. But other than that everything should be the same time. As for the NTPD package, it is required that it always send out GMT and the individual clients use there own time offset. This is so that any NTP server world wide can always send the same time.

There is a way around this if you use the built in time client. Which will always send the local time of the server. But you have to use a special time client such as the netcat binary and scripting or the windows time client.
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.

Many thanks.

I'm not sure if all of the systems support BST in the client, but I'll have a look.
