Mp3 Ripper ?

3rd Party Package Requesting

Postby Peppe/Sweden » Sat Jun 03, 2006 4:33 pm

I have googled a lot this evaning and found several rippers that use more then one program to rip-encode to mp3-and tag mp3 files.
As I understand , Cdparanoia is possible to run under the 2.0 kernel but I haven?t found anything about the other programs.
I would like this package made for Freesco 0.3.x

The following links are to several rippers:

<a href='http://www.roland-riegel.de/cdmp3/' target='_blank'>http://www.roland-riegel.de/cdmp3/</a>
<a href='http://www.suwald.com/ripit/ripit.html' target='_blank'>http://www.suwald.com/ripit/ripit.html</a>

And here?s a link to several rippers:
<a href='http://freshmeat.net/search/?q=cdparanoia?ion=projects' target='_blank'>http://freshmeat.net/search/?q=cdparanoia?ion=projects</a>

Anyone?

Hello,
Some time ago I compiled <a href='http://lame.sourceforge.net/' target='_blank'>lame</a> for FREESCO.

It is not a CD ripper but it can encode mp3. You can download it from here :

Code: Select all
http://freesco.zapto.org/packages/nonpackages/lame

I get this error when trying to install the Lame package:

sed: hold space truncated to 4000 characters
sed: hold space truncated to 4000 characters
sed: hold space truncated to 4000 characters
sed: hold space truncated to 4000 characters

Any ideas to why ?

Well, actually this is not a package, just the lame binary.
To download it, login at the console as root and at the prompt type :
Code: Select all
cd /usr/bin
snarf http://freesco.zapto.org/packages/nonpackages/lame
chmod +x lame

And then type 'lame' to get usage.

Here is the print of the lame help :
[root@Freesco] lame --help
LAME 32bits version 3.97 (beta 2, Feb 12 2006) (http://www.mp3dev.org/)

usage: lame [options] <infile> [outfile]

    <infile> and/or <outfile> can be "-", which means stdin/stdout.

RECOMMENDED:
    lame -V2 input.wav output.mp3

OPTIONS:
-b bitrate      set the bitrate, default 128 kbps
-h              higher quality, but a little slower.  Recommended.
    -f              fast mode (lower quality)
-V n            quality setting for VBR.  default n=4
                    0=high quality,bigger files. 9=smaller files
--preset type  type must be "medium", "standard", "extreme", "insane",
or a value for an average desired bitrate and depending
on the value specified, appropriate quality settings will
                    be used.
"--preset help" gives more info on these

    --longhelp      full list of options

you can use --longhelp for all options.

The command to encode a file is :
Code: Select all
lame sample.wav  sample.mp3

the -h switch can be added to encode in high quality.

<a href='http://arstechnica.com/guides/tweaks/encoding.ars/2' target='_blank'>Here</a> is a presentation of lame, and the command line help can be found online <a href='http://lame.sourceforge.net/USAGE' target='_blank'>here</a>.

BTW, I also have compiled an mp3 tag editor, called id3.
It is basic (id3v1 tags only).
To download it you can use :

Code: Select all
cd /usr/bin
snarf http://freesco.zapto.org/packages/nonpackages/id3
chmod +x id3

And then type 'id3' at the prompt to get usage.
