Is it possibe to use rdesktop in FREESCO?

As I heard it is enough svgalib for rdesktop and this lib was already used in FREESCO.

Sorry, if I am mistaken.

What do you mean with Rdesktop IN Freesco?
Freesco by default has no GUI (Graphical User Interface) and therefore no Desktop.

If you mean using Rdesktop THROUGH Freesco, then yes, that is possible, but it all depends on how you want to do it.
Experience shared, is experience gained.

1) Post an URL where the source code (+ docs) can be found.
2) Which version of freesco you want it for.

dingetje>1.Post an URL where the source code (+ docs) can be found.
2. Which version of freesco you want it for.

1 - Project URLs:
<a href='http://www.rdesktop.org' target='_blank'>http://www.rdesktop.org</a> ; <a href='http://sourceforge.net/projects/rdesktop/' target='_blank'>http://sourceforge.net/projects/rdesktop/</a>
About ability runing rdesktop without X-server I have read on Russian pages
( <a href='http://elinux.org.ru/rdesktop/' target='_blank'>http://elinux.org.ru/rdesktop/</a> or <a href='http://www.wtpro.ru/rdesktop/)' target='_blank'>http://www.wtpro.ru/rdesktop/)</a>
"rdesktop.patch.gz for rdesktop, allowing to start the program without need for the X-server. For videoout the svgalib is using."
But link to rdesktop.patch.gz isn't working.

2 - Any. May be current or future. I am using 0.3.8

If the svgalib isn't accessible under FREESCO - the question is closed.
Though as a patch-file may be exist or may be not, we can forget about subject :(

Sorry for the "excellent" English.

svgalib *is* available for FREESCO, in fact its part of the bootlogo package for FREESCO.

I've found a patch for rdesktop 1.1.0 with svgalib, and managed to get a binary.
However when I tried it, it always crashed with a Memory Fault :(

Just for fun and out of curiosity I've then tried to compile rdesktop 1.1.0 against X11 and sure enough that worked. Pretty amazing stuff.

Just to follow up on this:
  • rdesktop with X11 seems to work pretty well, but obviously requires X11 on FREESCO which is kind of a CPU/Memory/Resource hog and thus not very well suited for a router.</li>
  • I guess rdesktop could run in combination with my XVNC package, but that would defy the purpose of this package request as it requires a VNC client to connect to the FREESCO VNC server first, so you could more easily run an RDP client to your target desktop instead.</li>
  • rdesktop 1.1.0 at one time has been patched with SVGALib support, but I failed to get it to work</li>

Have you tried this with the "setvt" package ?
Because without the actual video card support the svga library doesn't really work and the defaults in the boot logo package are probably not enough. Of course this also requires a supported video chipset before anything even has a chance of working.
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.

I downloaded and installed the binary SVGAlib for libc.so.5 that is available on <a href='http://www.svgalib.org' target='_blank'>http://www.svgalib.org</a> but I didn't tried "setvt". How does that work?

Maybe we should take this to "Packaging/Compiling/Client Information Forums" because the request has been made and this is an entirely different discussion.

I'm not giving up on this just yet ;)
