Smartmontools

Right now, a package that would allow to set-up some smart monitoring tool would probably be the thing that's missing the most from Freesco.

smart monitoring tool
I am assuming you mean S.M.A.R.T. monitoring tool?
Which unfortunately all of the smartmontools are designed for 2.2.x kernels and will not compile. However looking back at the UCSC smartsuite beta version 2.0Beta2 will compile. But at present I have only tested it on one system and it did not respond as it should have. The readme states that it also needs a 2.2.14 or newer kernel to run properly.
So I will test it on another system or two and see what it does. It may also be possible to adapt it to the older kernel with some help from justdave??

Yep, that's the thing...
It's just that S.M.A.R.T. types so slowly when you're always in a hurry :)
