I tried to install Wordpress for 3 times with no succed. My hard drive going crazy everytime installation begin and it happended for hours and finally my freeso box dies. The System Recommendations are PHP version 4.3 or higher and MySQL version 4.0 or higher. This means that it should installed with no problem.

Has anyone install the script in freesco box? Share with me with the installation process. Thank you

I'm using mySQL 3 on my own box, so will have to try this on a test machine.
I'm assuming you're talking about version 2.5.1 of Wordpress?

No, they're right, it really is a 5 minute install.

I can report no problems whatsoever to install this on FREESCO 03x with Apache 1.3.27 and mySQL 4.1.7a add-on packages installed (pretty much out of the box).

Maybe it helps to tell what steps you've taken and where the install starts to act funny.
I did not experience long delays or crazy hard disk access.

Maybe your hard disk is flaky? Time for a scandisk (in case you run on top of FAT) or fsck (in case of ext2).

What are the specs of your FREESCO machine? Maybe low on RAM?

There is only one problem, the PHP library in the Apache package is compiled with the mySQL 3 client libraries and can thus not authenticate correctly with mySQL 4 server.

After you've created the database and setup credentials with:

mysql> create database wordpress;
mysql> grant all on wordpress.* to wordpress@localhost identified by 'secret';


set the password in old 3.x format with:

Code: Select all

mysql> set password for wordpress@localhost = OLD_PASSWORD('secret');


(replace 'secret' with another password that's less easy to guess)

Then proceed with the wordpress install as described in great detail on the wordpress site.

You may also want to install the exim package to make the PHP mail() function work, but if you really only want to sent mails, and receive them via another mail server, then maybe this dokuwiki article is for you:

I should known better. You are right Dingetje, my hard drive has a problem, a lot of problems. At the first stage of scandisk, there are so many directory structure errors and file system errors. Now I am performing a thorough surface scan on my 7.5 GB Freesco drive and I believe it will takes for some times.

I think it happened becouse of I dont have another freesco box to try new packages or script I found on the net. Now I should prepare another freesco box for trail version. This could save my first box from crashing.

I cant explain to much in this forum. The forum always rejected my post or reply even though nothing is inside it. No special characters, no package name in it, no suspected banned word. I am trying to find text hosting to publish post/replay.

Dingetje, I failed again installing wordpress on a reformated disk. It came up with the same result. Wordpress murdered my freesco box.

UPDATE:
I am out of memory. Can't cantinue install the script until I add one.
