The snort package has not been asked for the 04x series yet and it was never a highly used package. But it is a very useful tool if it is configured correctly for your needs and there isn't any reason that the 03x package can't be updated to run on the 04x series. But it will take a little bit of time to do it.
If you are afraid that you might make a mistake. The chances are high that you will never learn anything.

Hi Lightning,
Would you be so kind to update Snort to 0.4.x
I am not able to do it and I really cannot find the time to learn how to do it.

The one and only option that I like Snort for is that it blocks the IP from intruders for a while once it detects unwanted action.
Besides it gives a nice insight in what is passing by from the outside world, sniifing around and looking for open networks.

If there are other progs that are able to block so nice and without me needing to do anything that will do too.
Who knows knows, who doesn't doesn't.
