FREESCO Support • View topic - Multiple IPs

I would like very much to see the ability to add multiple IPs on the external nic and the port forwarding syntax move to something like:

TCP/UDP, INCOMING_IP/PORT, FORWARD_TO_IP/PORT, ...

This way you can forward ports on different external IPs to different internal IPs...

I'm a web developer and this would allow me to forward port 80 on one IP to my Linux server and port 80 on another IP to my Windoze server...instead of having to access it by specifying the port on the client's side.

Ok...so you CAN add IP's to a NIC...but still can't forward through them...

I'd be willing to help work on getting the port forwarding to work through virtual IPs if someone is willing to help me out on where to start.

You cannot use port forwarding via aliased IP's

See this thread.

freesco 030 will have support for upto 8 NIC's and I assume that portforwarding from a physical NIC will work.

heh.. well I am sure if you paid the developers about 10K they will get it to work for you too... :p Let's see.. free w/maybe donation or 5k-30K?

I'll repeat the URL that explains why it can't be done:

http://www.thelinuxreview.com/howto/IP-MASQ/x2171.htm

but, having said that, with freesco 0.3.0 there will be support for upto 8 real NIC's so you don't have to use IP alias at all and port forward and all those other nice features we've learned to love will work as advertised.

... 'xept that 8 nics usually won't fit on a mainboard (my router only -has- 4 ISA slots :D )

Still, it's better to have the software not limit the system...

*still can't imagine needing 8 different interfaces... lol*

If you have PCI this http://www.znyx.com/products/hardware/zx340q.htm
may be a nice card...

Probably outrageous price tag, specially when compared to the scrap heap hardware of most freesco boxes :p

The document stated that masq'ing over [virtual] devices doesn't work... It did not mention how masq'ing would react to 2 IP's bound to 1 interface (with IP aliasing?). If this is not implemented in the kernel that was compiled for Freesco (I still want those sources and the makefile!!!) then recompiling the kernel with the correct options should allow you to set up a 1-nic router...
